I have been concentrating my energies on fostering cultural change in my city since the late sixties. In my view, art has never been relegated to the merely aesthetic and visual: it is interwoven with life and has become my reason for living ... I have been the forerunner of currents that only years later would become mainstream, and I have shared in the journeys of artists, poets and playwrights who then went on to enjoy international acclaim. I have always been ahead of my time in my work, and I do not see art as a means of success, a commercial interest, but as a love for research and knowledge – art for art’s sake.
